GABA and Glutamate
We're going to focus in more detail on the chemical messengers inside your brain, in particular GABA and glutamate, as those have a direct link to mental health:
Glutamate: your brain's "go" signal (it revs things up and makes nerve cells more active).

GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid): your brain's "brake" (it calms things down and prevents over-firing).

A healthy brain needs a good balance between glutamate and GABA. Too much "go" without enough "brake" can show up as anxiety, irritability, trouble sleeping, or seizures in some people.
