The RICE method

If you do get a minor strain or sprain, the RICE method helps you recover:

  1. Rest — stop the activity and rest the injured area.
  2. Ice — apply ice for 15–20 minutes to reduce swelling.
  3. Compression — wrap the area with an elastic bandage.
  4. Elevation — raise the injured area above heart level when you can.

If pain is severe or does not improve, contact your care team.
